Danny Murphy: Former England midfielder reveals cocaine addiction

Addiction 'became own worst enemy' for Murphy

Former Liverpool and England midfielder Danny Murphy has revealed he became addicted to cocaine after his playing career ended.

Murphy, 45, said he "went down a slippery slope" after retiring from football in 2013. He said he would often use cocaine "as an escape" and "in the end it just became my own worst enemy".

Murphy, who played for Liverpool, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers in his career, said his addiction "nearly cost him everything". He said he lost his job as a pundit, his relationships and his health.

Murphy has since turned his life around and is now a successful pundit and businessman. He said he is speaking out about his addiction to help others who may be struggling with the same issue.
